The Faculty of Criminology, Justice and Policy Studies is accepting applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant/associate professor in the field of human rights and the law commencing July 1, 2010. The successful applicant will, at the time of appointment, hold a PhD in any area pertaining to Human Rights (Law, Conflict Resolution, Crime and Justice, Development, Philosophy, History, or Political Science) and that is relevant to social science. Candidates may have an active research agenda in any area of human rights, such as civil and political rights, social and economic rights, or other emerging areas of human rights in comparative, international, or Canadian contexts. We are particularly interested in a candidate who can contribute to the establishment and growth of the Faculty's Legal Studies program. The faculty member will be expected to: conduct research; teach undergraduate courses at all levels; provide student advisement; and participate fully in the life of the Faculty and the University. Applicants with innovative areas of research are encouraged to apply. This position is pending budgetary approval.
The Faculty of Criminology, Justice and Policy Studies offers Honours Bachelor of Arts degrees in Communication, Criminology and Justice Studies, Legal Studies, Public Policy, and a Masters of Arts (MA) in Criminology. The ability to teach core areas such as legal theory, diversity and law, law and social change, or women in conflict with the law would also be considered an asset. The Faculty of Criminology, Justice and Policy Studies (Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities) is accepting applications for a tenure-track Associate, a tenured Associate or tenured Professor position at a senior level in Communication. A successful new BA in Communication program was launched at UOIT in 2007 and an MA in Communication (Professional) program is planned for 2011. In support of this rapid expansion we invite applications for a core faculty position from candidates with a PhD in Communication and several years of experience in teaching (including graduate level courses and supervision), research and administration. The successful candidate will take on a leadership role within the Communication program and will oversee the launch of the upcoming MA.
While all candidates with expertise and experience in various areas of Communication Studies are encouraged to apply, we are especially interested in hiring faculty who can teach in the areas of Organizational Communication, International Communication, Business and Professional Writing, or the Social, Political and Economic impact of ICTs. Demonstrated leadership skills which can be used to help build a strong Communication program, as well as an active research agenda are, however, the main qualifications for this position. Experience supervising graduate students is preferred. Applications from mid-career and senior scholars are encouraged.
