Research interests: Issues of immigration, race, gender, sexuality, family and culture.
Supervision Areas: Socio-cultural issues of immigration, race, gender, sexuality, family and culture, and domestic violence in immigrant families; quantitative/qualitative methodologies.
Biography
Dr. Arshia U. Zaidi, Assistant Professor, received her MA degree in Sociology from the University of Windsor, Windsor, Ontario and PhD degree in Sociology at Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan.She teaches research methods, statistics, and social theory as well asother substantive areas. Dr. Zaidi's research focuses on issues ofimmigration, race/ethnicity, gender, sexuality, family, and culture.
While most of her research focuses on the ethno-racial group of SouthAsians, it is not limited to them.
Research grants: Social
Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) project (April
2007-May 2010) which qualitatively examines cultural dilemmas and
sexual experiences of young South Asians in the Greater Toronto Area.
