Vision Statement
The Faculty of Criminology, Justice and Policy Studies of the University Of Ontario Institute Of Technology is committed to building top-ranked programs based on an interdisciplinary vision. The Faculty offers high quality, socially relevant and cutting-edge curricula that adhere to the philosophy that education communicates social and democratic values, fosters ethical conduct and critical thinking, and develops awareness in students of their own identities and potential. The Faculty's priorities lie in the economic and social advancement of its students and in their preparation for careers. The Faculty strives to become recognized nationally and internationally for our innovative and critical scholarship; the rigour of our graduate and undergraduate programs; and the quality of our graduates. The Faculty seeks to connect internationally with students and scholars across the globe, while also contributing to the well-being and sustainability of our local community through collaborative research.
The vision and mission of the Faculty are consistent with those of the university. Both statements stress the primacy of scholarship and teaching and underscore service to UOIT's diverse student body as well as to communities surrounding the institution.
Our Faculty's vision is translated in the following objectives:
- Establish excellence in faculty teaching and scholarship;
- Create an environment that motivates faculty and students to undertake basic scholarly, action-oriented, and interdisciplinary research in social sciences and humanities;
- Provide students with enhanced academic experiences-such as research collaboration with faculty, continuous advising, innovative technology, prominent speakers from all walks of life, clubs that facilitate learning beyond the classroom, and internships in government and the private sector;
- Prepare a diverse student population for positions as leaders in their academic, professional, and residential communities;
- Train and re-train personnel in the community to meet existing and emerging national and global challenges;
- Forge links with relevant institutions within and outside Canada to realize the Vision and Mission of the Faculty and the University.
